Welcome to LING937 - TESOL in Context
Linguistics
LING937 explores the Social Context of TESOL. It is designed for language teachers who already have some classroom experience. The main areas covered are how language learning takes place, with a focus on learner and teacher identities and roles, teaching methodology and how it has developed and changed, the discourses of the classroom, and the impact of the broader social context on English teaching and learning.
Assessment is through two written assignments and (for external students only) participation in web discussions on relevant topics.
The textbook is Candlin and Mercer (2001) English Language Teaching in its Social Context.
