LING902 Language and Cognition

Macquarie University Online Teaching Facility

In LING 902 you will examine theoretical approaches and empirical data relating to the nature of the cognitive processes involved in language use. This topic of study incorporates aspects from linguistics in the form of theories of language structure, as well as psychology, which is concerned with the representation of knowledge in the brain and the nature of the processes that are involved in the acquisition and use of that knowledge. The topic 'Language and Cognition' is therefore, interdisciplinary. You will use a textbook appropriate for your postgraduate studies as you begin research in this area. The book should provide you with a valuable reference source for some of the linguistic or psychological concepts that you encounter in the other course readings from scientific journals.
