ISYS303 Advanced Applications Development

Semester 2, 2008

ISYS303 is an advanced enterprise applications development unit that concentrates on the concepts and technologies for the development and deployment of modern distributed commercial systems. It focuses on the support and tools that integrated development environments (IDEs) provide to facilitate enterprise and business-to-business application development and integration. This unit takes a direct advantage of students? prior knowledge of application development and programming and extends that knowledge on the study of advanced features of contemporary IDEs in support of teamwork production of software. Coverage includes such topics as advanced client-interface development, the use of web servers and application servers, as well as the connection to the back-end databases. Special emphasis is placed on how to construct and integrate systems so that they are adaptive (i.e. understandable, maintainable and scalable). To this aim, ISYS303 covers multi-layer architectural frameworks, component technology standards (such as J2EE or .NET), and the technology of constructing systems from services, i.e. from running software instances.

All of the unit materials will be made available via this WebCT site. We assume that students will regularly check the online information available here, where lecture notes, tutorial and practical questions, assignment descriptions and other related materials can be found.
