Teaching and Learning Strategy

In Writing Project you are encouraged to reflect upon and interrogate your writing practises, to explore new methods in relation to craft and technique or genre, and to link this work to analysis of texts. The readings and discussions are structured so that the student can make productive links between these tasks and her or his own writing. Students work to achieve this through a regular writing and reading practice, and through meeting weekly in the writing workshop.

Relationship between Assessment and Learning Outcomes

Assessment tasks are designed to encourage students to develop writing skills through the inter-related practice of creative writing, reading, and discussion. The assessment tasks focus on these three skills and aim to develop them in inter-related ways.

Assessment

1. Participation 20% Ongoing assessment
2. Oral Presentation 10% As scheduled
3. Creative Assignment 1 20% Due: tbc, 1,000-2,000 words
4. Creative Assignment, Final 40% tbc, 2000-3,000 words
5. Reflective Essay 10% Due: tbc, 750 words words

Important

The writing project that each student is working on will be developed during the 13 weeks of the course. Work written for another course cannot be submitted for workshop or for assessment. This is University policy. Penalties, including being given a FAIL grade, may result for students using creative work from other units in the ENGL 335 unit.
